Recently the Welsh Government (WG) commenced a consultation on introducing 20mph speed limits in residential areas and roads regularly used for active travel.
The WG suggests reducing the speed limit could:
- reduce the number and severity of road collisions
- increase opportunities to walk and cycle in our communities
- help improve health and wellbeing for all
- make our streets safer and help safeguard the environment for future generations.
In the last year the Community Council has argued continually that road safety is in urgent need of improvement in our communities and has made the case strongly that the concerns being raised must be tackled.
The Community Council will consider the WG’s proposals at its next meeting in September. However, we know that many local residents share our concern for the safety of our communities, and may wish to comment personally on the proposals.
