Vale of Glamorgan Draft Budget Proposals

November 17, 2023

The Council is consulting on its draft budget proposals for 2024-25. The Council expects to receive just under £209million in funding from the Welsh Government, a figure that makes up just over half of the income needed to meet the growing demand for services next year. The rest will be made up of council tax, a proportion of business rates collected across Wales and charges for some services.

In order to balance the budget and meet the anticipated £7.8million funding shortfall, we propose to use a range of methods, including:

  • Continue to review the way services are delivered to make them as efficient as possible
  • Prioritise services that protect our most vulnerable residents
  • Increase council tax by 6.7% (this would keep the Vale of Glamorgan below the Welsh average)
  • Increase charges for some services in line with inflation (6.7%)
  • Introduce charges for some services

We will be consulting on these proposals for the next four weeks and would like to hear your thoughts if you could please spare ten minutes to read our proposals and complete our online survey.

If you would prefer to email your comments instead of completing the survey, please send these to consultation@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk  The closing date for comments is 15 February.
