The Council is consulting on its draft budget proposals for 2024-25. The Council expects to receive just under £209million in funding from the Welsh Government, a figure that makes up just over half of the income needed to meet the growing demand for services next year. The rest will be made up of council tax, a proportion of business rates collected across Wales and charges for some services.
In order to balance the budget and meet the anticipated £7.8million funding shortfall, we propose to use a range of methods, including:
- Continue to review the way services are delivered to make them as efficient as possible
- Prioritise services that protect our most vulnerable residents
- Increase council tax by 6.7% (this would keep the Vale of Glamorgan below the Welsh average)
- Increase charges for some services in line with inflation (6.7%)
- Introduce charges for some services
